Blackbelt

After some revamps and classic releases, we decided it was time for something new. However, we didn’t just want to drop a new “normal” yoyo, we went for something special and weird.

Out came the Blackbelt – a super slimline fullsize diameter bi-metal saucer.

Its large diameter paired with the thick belt offers nice beefy spintimes. The sub 30mm width gives it a unique feel and awesome pocket friendliness (you can leave your holsters at home).

Even though Blackbelt is only 28mm wide, we were able to add a proper IRG for easy thumbgrinds. Alongside with our classic ILYY hub the Blackbelt is THE perfect addition to our line-up and every collection.

The Blackbelt features the awesome 7068 aluminum alloy and the same ceramic-touch finish as the Blackout Abyss that everybody loved so much.

Blackbelt comes in an unresponsive setup with a C-size CT KMK bearing. For modern responsive play we include a slim C-size bearing as well a shorter axle to accommodate it.

ILYY x RSO: E1NSTiEN

The E1NSTiEN is a collaboration project between Elvin of Round Spinning Objects (RSO) and ILYY. We have been in the yo-yo scene for more than a decade but this would be our first fully featured titanium release. Thinking back, it seemed like yesterday since we met back in 2006 when we first created the E1NS!

We already had the CAD for a titanium E1NS drawn when Elvin approached us, and after minor tweaks later, it resulted in our first prototype. Creating the signature ILYY hub posed great a challenge to the machinist, and tweaks to the hub and axle were required to bring the eventual design to reality. But by combining our forces we managed to succeed and improve upon the first prototype to bring you the final E1NSTiEN.

In addition to the classic ILYY elements like the signature hub with a minimalistic and functional design, we had contributed to writing the “Cyberbrain” backstory behind the E1NSTiEN.

Specs:
Diameter: 50.0mm
Width: 40.4mm
Gap: 4.0mm
Weight: 61.5g
Bearing: C-Size
Response: 19mm pad, RSO’s Type 40 magenta LANDING PADS
Limitation: 67

More information on the E1NSTiEN and it’s story available at RSO.

The return of the darkness

Back in 2007 when we came close to finishing up the E1NS, we goofed around in CAD and created crazy ‘never-been-done’ shapes. At the time, we thought our yoyo making to be a one-time endeavor. Thus, the designs we created were not focused on DFx aspects at all.

One of these brainchilds was the Noctu. Right after we rendered the first 3D-model, we realized, there was something here. This was too special to be left in a mental drawer. It had to be brought to life.

When the E1NS nuked into the scene and obliterated our wildest expectations, we immediately sought out to awaken the Noctu. This proved itself to be hard, very hard. The design was so bonkers (including the asymmetrical bearing seat), our machining shop struggled long and hard to get the first prototypes machined. In the end, they succeeded and were in business.

Tossing these around, we quickly had a list of improvements collected and were ready for the next improved iteration. However, we soon learned the design still was very challenging to machine and thus went from iteration to iteration.

The delays became so intense that we released more yoyos and new models in between the Noctu prototypes. In the end, we released 10 different batches and all had their quirks and changes.

We always wanted to return to the OG specs, the way we had initially thought Noctu to feel like. That’s what we did with this 2019 release, based on the smaller diameter and the traditional wider wings, the new Noctu is an ode to old school ILYY.

Specs:
Diameter: 52mm
Width: 41.50mm
Gap: 4mm
Weight: 65.5g
Bearing: C-Size
Response: 19mm pad
Limitation: 23

Sold out! Thank you!

It’s Teatime

Back in February we teased our new titanium project: Teatime
We received lots of positive response for it. After finishing our two 2WEI 2019 (#1, #2) runs, we thus immediately started working on the Teatime.

As a first small batch, we made 12 prototypes (10 of them for sale).

Specs:
Diameter: 55mm
Width: 42mm
Gap: 4mm
Weight: 65.30g
Bearing: C-Size
Response: 19mm Pad

We are sold out of this batch of Teatime. Thanks to all on our mailing list that supported this project.
We might do another batch of these if there is enough demand. Let us know via email.

More 2WEI

When we released 2WEI 2019 it was well received by the community and our small customer base. The demand exceeded our expectations and we quickly got more requests than we had yoyos available. We then decided to make another small batch. We kept the design unchanged, we only opted for a different color: a lush green.

Specs:
Diameter: 56.15mm
Width: 46.30mm
Weight: 67g
Response: 19mm Pads
Bearing: ILYY KMKct C-Size
Coating: Medium Soda Blast, Anodized Green
Material: 6061 Aluminum
Limitation: 28

We based the size for the second batch on the requests we’ve got and we made a total of 28 yoyos. But, as it often happens, not all people on our waiting list came back to us. This is always a difficult situation for us since we usually have to sell a given batch completely to cover our costs. The good news is, that we talked to YYE and they were happy to help us out. Hence, a hand full of yoyos will be available there soon.

It is likely that we will use this opportunity in the future again, if we find us in a similar situation.
That said, we want to keep our current business model for the time being and make small, exclusive batches that we sell directly to players. Though, having the opportunity to work with YYE could provide more options and security for us later down the line. Eventually this could also help us to make larger batches and thus reducing the price per yoyo.

If you want to receive first-hand notifications about future releases and waiting lists, sent us an email to info@ilyy.de and you will be added to our mailing list.

Calm down and rest

Every now and then when I think about how we started our journey, I’m blown away by the time that has passed. We’ve been doing this for 13 years now. Wow!

We went from under- to fullsized aluminum yoyos, from pad response to sILYYcone, from monometal to bimetal and even trimetal. From soft anodization to CandyBlast, from small batches to large runs and super limited special releases.

For quite some time we sponsored a team, worldwide events, meetings and ran a large and active message board.

But one thing in particular we haven’t done until today, and that is our own full titanium yoyo. Granted, we’ve been playing with the idea for over ten years but never came around and left the idea phase. However, we knew ever since the Liopleurodon became such a massive success that our titanium efforts have to make use of the insane levels of mojo the Lio had.

Many makers use working titles for their projects and choose a fitting name after most of the design is finished. We at ILYY like to work the other way. A cool name motivates us even more to create something truly unique and amazing. The emotions while forming the idea of the yoyo and the mood we want it to express are key factors to the naming process. With this all new titanium yoyo we want to encapsulate the essence of an easy Sunday morning. A state of mind far away from stressful business, traffic jams, deadlines and any hectic pace.

Dominik has never been a coffee person, instead he enjoyed hot chocolate in those occasions. A few years back, he discovered Darjeeling, the famous black tea from India and has been hooked ever since. He especially enjoys the second flush harvest in the second half of the year which produces a more aromatic less leafy flavor. On weekends,he loves to sit down, sip his tea and enjoy the calmness and piece of these quiet two days.

We thought long and hard about a name for a titanium ILYY that expressed easiness and calmness. Many titanium yoyos are given pun-intended names that showcase their titanium construction which we always found pretty cool but we did not want it to be too bland.
And then it hit us! ILYY has never made a full titanium yoyo. But now, it’s Teatime!

We finished the design end of last year and will enter production during 2019. Here are two CAD shots:

Specs:
Diameter: 55mm
Width: 42mm
Gap: 4mm
Weight: 65g
Bearing: C-Size
Response: 19mm Pad

As of now, we cannot say how many Teatime will be made. If you are interested, let us know via email (info@ilyy.de), so we can get an idea of the numbers.

We are really excited for this yoyo and can’t wait to show you the first photos of the real deal.

2WEI thousand 19

You can never truly know if a yoyo will become a hit. Especially, if the base design or premise of the yoyo is not laid out to be highly popular.
We followed this philosophy of crazy yoyo designs throughout the 10+ years of ILYY. This led to all kinds of weird shapes with sharp curves (Noctu) or flat can-like appearance (PYBIT). With one yoyo however, we did not incorporate craziness by adding weird curves but by supersizing it. And what other yoyo to chose for giantification than our prime specimen – the E1NS.

Back in 2010 we introduced this yoyo and it was called 2WEI, not really regarded as a successor to the E1NS, more like a different approach. When planning the order at that time, we did not have high demand. People were not sure what to think of it. It was very wide and chunky, almost the exact opposite of what competition-driven yoyos should look like. For this reason, there weren’t many 2WEI produced.

When people got their hands on the one and only production batch, this perception changed. The fear of playing a brick with a string faded and folks recognized the amazing feel of the 2WEI – the ultimate bubblegum funday yoyo. The unique and fun playability paired with the highly limited numbers led to a 2WEI cult in the BST-boards we would have never imagined. As soon as one popped up, it was gone immediately. They were that sought after by players and collectors.

So now, to kick off 2019, we will bring it back. Better than ever with amazing smoothness, silky finish and a new never-been-done color for ILYY in azure blue. These came out insanely nice, we are blown away by the end result. We received great feedback from you about our approach of the Solid, namely C-sized bearing and 19mm response pads, so we decided to add them to the 2WEI as well.

When throwing it, you immediately feel the 2WEI’s powerful spin. It weighs in at 67g that are carefully distributed to allow for the mentioned super spin times while keeping the floatiness alive. While 67g are definitely more on the heavier side, the large dimensions of the 2WEI make good use of the mass. It does not feel chunky and slow, it feels powerful and chilled. It will put a smile on your face from the moment you land your first trapeze.
Looking at the inertia of the yoyo, the 2WEI ranges among the top monometal yoyos in our line up only surpassed by the Fury, which of course dominates thanks to its extreme H-shape.

Specs:
Diameter: 56.15mm
Width: 46.30mm
Weight: 67g
Response: 19mm Pads
Bearing: ILYY KMKct C-Size
Coating: Anodized Azure Blue
Material: 6061 Aluminum
Limitation: 20
